SayUncle offers a thought experiment: If you were prez:
By some bizarre set of circumstances, you are the president as of now. Name the first 5 things you’d do. Level of difficulty: it must actually be stuff the president is constitutionally allowed to do.
My list:
- Rescind all regulatory executive orders that have nothing to do with running the executive branch.
- Grant amnesty to all non-violent drug offenders currently in prison and direct all federal law enforcement away from drug law enforcement and toward border enforcement and illegal alien deportations.
- I'd visit Capitol Hill unannounced and publically harangue the Congress to free the American people from the immoral laws they've created: Social Security 'Insurance', Income Taxes, Corporate Taxes, Capital gains taxes and estate taxes, and so on. I'd keep coming back and take on all comers and all arguments.
- I'd address the citizens of the US and give them my vision of a freer, happier, wealthier and wiser collective. I'd explain how communism does work, when you are free to leave the commune, for whatever reason. Churches, Social clubs, Societies, Unions, Guilds and more - all can accomplish great things working as individual groups. Communism always fails when it is forced. Where it is voluntary, it usually works or dies for whatever combination of sloth, greed and pride works to destroy it. I'd urge people to open all areas of social utility to competition. This means schools, hospitals, unions and all other industries protected by legislation would have to stand on their own feet or die due to lack of consumer confidence.
- Meanwhile, as I'm setting the domestic house in order, I'd head over to the UN and pull no punches. I'd tell the world we are what we are because we are blessed with a tradition rooted in natural law, derived from God and/or self-evident truth. I'd call upon the leaders of the nations to be the Jeffersons and Masons of their countries, names to be honored through history and associated with the highest ideals of man - life & liberty and the prosperity which naturally arises in parallel.
